Reimbursements & CPT Codes
The final 2019-2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule released on November 1st creates three new codes in the category of Chronic Care Remote Physiologic Monitoring (“CCMRPM”) for (1) initial setup and patient education, (2) initial device supply and (3) monitoring data and interacting with patients or caregivers. *Remote patient monitoring has received new Medicare reimbursement codes, all effective January 1st, 2019 and updated in 2020.
The final code descriptors for the new CCRPM codes read as follows:
CPT codes 99487, 99489, and 99490 for chronic care management services are also now covered by private providers offering Medicare Advantage, such as United Healthcare and Aetna.
In addition, the American Medical Association (AMA) has recently announced six new codes supporting RPM for 2020. These are 99421, 99422, 99423, 98970, 98971 and 98972.
